The trip in short
This 8-day hiking and cultural trip focuses on the province of Malaga. We stay in the beautiful fishing town of Nerja on the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 40 km east of Malaga. From there we undertake various walks and visit the city of Malaga and other cultural sights.
1
Arrival in Malaga
At Malaga Airport our tour guide will be present to meet the guests and arrange transfer to the accommodation in Nerja.
Depending on the arrival time we will spend this first day (or evening) exploring the beautiful town, including the famous Balcon de Europa, Placa de Espana, the nice shopping streets and of course the many beaches (for example Playa Calahonda). The many terraces and restaurants offer the opportunity to experience the sea, the city and the surroundings.

The white village of Frigiliana
Andalusia is known for its many “white villages”. One of the most beautiful white villages is Frigiliana, about 5 km from Nerja. We go to Frigiliana in about 15 minutes with the local Alsa bus from Nerja bus station. After our visit to the village we walk back to Nerja via a beautiful route.
There are 2 walking options: a walk of about 6 km via the bed of the Rio Higueron, or a walk of about 15 km for the more experienced walker, via the Rio Chillar to Nerja. Both walks are very beautiful. The long route also has beautiful views.

Malaga city
Malaga is a fascinating city with many sights. We will visit the Cathedral of Malaga, which took 200 years to build (1528-1782). The versatile artist Picasso was born in Malaga and there is a Picasso Museum, which is well worth a visit. A walk through the Alcazaba is special because you can taste the history of Malaga there. The Alcazaba is a Moorish fortress with Arabic and Roman influences. The Roman Theatro Romano is located near the Alcazaba. And of course it is nice to stroll through the beautiful city centre with its many shops and terraces.

The caves of Nerja
This day we visit the caves of Nerja (Cuevas de Nerja). A small train from the centre of Nerja takes us to the caves. These caves are remarkable for their size but also for their geological and historical significance. Among other things, finds of prehistoric human life have been made. We will also have a nice walk through the Jardin Botanico Detunda Cueva de Nerja. This botanical garden is part of a network of botanical gardens in Andalusia. We have lunch on the terrace of the Cuevas, with a beautiful view over the white village of Maro.

5
A tough mountain hike
This day is marked by a long walk of about 10-15 km from the Calle Capuchinos in Nerja. We explore the Sierra Tejeda y Almijara. A fairly steep climb the first kilometers after which beautiful views over Nerja and the nearby white village of Maro. At the top of the walk quietly down, to land in the bed of the Rio Chillar, which takes us back to Nerja. During the walk we enjoy a hearty lunch that we bring ourselves, at a beautiful picnic spot in the mountains.

6
Inside Nerja
This Sunday we visit a large vintage market on the market place in Nerja, and combine that with a nice city walk. The Sunday market in Nerja is very large and special, worth a visit. There is everything for sale, and it is nice to walk around the market
This day can be filled in further, e.g. by a walk in the mountains from Maro, in the bed of the Rio Chillar, a visit to Museo de Nerja or a free day.

For coffee with Manuel
Visit to La Herradura Coffee Farm:
the only European coffee plantation. The plantation belongs to Manuel, a friendly Spaniard who dared to grow coffee beans in southern Spain, which according to experts is actually not possible. Apart from the coffee, Manuel also has the oldest mango tree in Spain, hundred-year-old chirimayo, dragon fruit trees, lychees and avocado plants on his farm. Manuel's tour ends in a 300-year-old Andalusian cortijo where seasonal fruit, local products and coffee beans are for sale.
